Yoga Underground (YU) was founded in 2015 by the studio director, Lynda Sandoval. YU works to complement the range of yoga currently offered in the Fredonia-Dunkirk area. More and different options will expand the love of yoga and the support of all the local instructors exponentially. We are committed to working in supportive connection for the benefit of our beloved community. Our philosophy is based on a quote by Buddha: Happiness never decreases by being shared.
Commitment to Community
YU believes in rewarding people who donate their time to better the local community, and we believe yoga should be accessible to as many people as possible. To that end, we will have one free community donation class a week, so that even people who can’t easily afford yoga can practice. We also offer half-price discounts to people who volunteer their time with local nonprofits through our KarmaYoga program. We commit to finding new and different ways to be a catalyst for positive change in Fredonia, Dunkirk, and the surrounding villages.
Being transplants to an area where there a lot of people who were born and raised here gives us a unique perspective on this awesome community. What we’ve come to know about Fredonia, Dunkirk, and the wider area is that it’s filled with resilient, hard-working, down-to-earth people who can take hard economic knocks and keep on chugging. We had only been in Fredonia for five days when we made an offer on a house. We couldn’t wait to live here. And now we hope to create, through Yoga Underground, a welcoming, healthy hub for the community that has given us so much already.
